Forensic medical sciences are recognized and valued for their important and useful contribution to the promotion and protection of the well being of individuals and society.

Our Mission Statement

“To promote the development and public interest in forensic medical sciences through the pursuit of excellence in research, education and service delivery, nationally and internationally, including in new areas of application of such knowledge, such as human rights and humanitarian investigations”

Our aims

  • To create a focus for staff dedicated to research and education in the forensic medical sciences, thus informing and improving the delivery of forensic service and ensuring realistic career opportunities and staff development at all levels.
  • To encourage interested professionals within QMUL to participate in the activities of the Group.
  • To provide regular educational activities at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • To develop a research strategy relevant to the national needs of forensic medical practice and in keeping with the QMUL research strategy
  • To develop a focus for evidence based forensic medical practice. The need for such an approach in forensic medicine is essential if forensic practitioners are to maintain their credibility as expert witnesses as well as encourage research activity within the field.
  • To develop close academic links with Law schools and other relevant faculties within the University of London and elsewhere.
  • To develop strategies in terms of training and research with the Home Office to assist in the development of forensic medical areas relevant to their needs
  • To develop close collaboration with local coroners, bearing in mind the requirements of the local community in the death investigation system, particularly in the light of recent reviews.
  • To establish an international profile and encourage joint activities with universities abroad.
